We have begun shooting!
The total process wasn't all that tiring. I was doing the shooting the whole time, so we got to talk to a lot of cool people, like Steve the Ugandan, and Steffen the super freakin' hot and cute with blue eyes ahmagad so amazing ugh asdfklj German (but Sara doesn't think so). We talked to people who were from Malaysia, Uganda, Holland, Austria, Iran, Kazakhstan and so much more, and we managed to cover as many as 14 people today itself!
We found that even based on their answers, we managed to cut their clips and pasted them into almost a storyline! The process of editing the video has been time consuming, but altogether pretty worthwhile. Even after watching the video for the 20th time, it still puts a smile on my face!
First, we had to sync my memory card from the DLSR. Then, we had to trace the voice memo of the interviews on my iPhone to my computer, and synchronize the voices to the videos. Then, we had to listen to the entire conversation before picking what was best to put into the final video! It's been a tough job, considering how Sara and I don't have much experience in doing video editing, (it's her first try), but we've been handling it surprisingly well, if not for the speed!
We also found out that the storyboard we made wasn't elaborate enough, and even though we've interviewed so many people, we still lacked the feel of the advertisement we want. So day 2 and final day of shooting will start tomorrow once we've discussed what else needs to be done.
I do believe we stil need to make some changes to the video.
For example:
1. The music cuts are slightly different because of the shift in a few videos that were about 2-3 seconds shorter.
2. The name and nationality of the person being interviewed should be shown on the bottom left corner.
3. The subtitles for some of the videos aren't quite complete.
4. The volume has to be equalized.
Sara and I both feel that we have not compiled enough information to feel like the ad is complete yet. There are many more things that we could add to it to make it more Malaysian, or comfortable and homely to us.
But that's open to discussion tomorrow!
All suggestions on how we could improve the video are welcomed :)

Great job guys!
ReplyDeletepoints we need to work on:
We have mentioned previously that our target is all ages. If so having so many youngsters and just 2 elders misses our target.
'What is the best part of Ramadhan' should be changed to something like 'What is the best part of being IN Malaysia for Ramadhan' because everybody saying food for to the question asked now belittles the holy festival a LOT since food is definetely not the point of this holy month. and having a video say that makes us look ignorant to the actual facts behind this religious time.
Also, i suggest we use candid moment of malaysians instead of the oh so lovely smile of the chocolate uganda boy and philindian because it is the uniqueness of malaysia we are tryng to portray.
what do you guys think of my suggestions?
